YOU’LL ALSO NEED
- Chain Nose Pliers
- Round Nose Pliers
- Wire Cutters
- Hot Glue Gun
- Hot Glue Sticks
|Project Note: Length of chain will vary depending on personal preference. Adjust length as needed.
Measure length of chain needed for first necklace strand. To start, hold chain up to your neck and take note with your fingers how long the first strand will need to be for a choker around the neck. Cut chain as needed with wire cutters.
NOTE: The clasp will add .5” length.
For the second and third strands of chain, the length of chain needed will increase, so that the necklace gradually hangs lower on the neck with each strand.
TIP: A rule of thumb is to increase the length of chain for each strand by 2″.
|Attach one end on all three lengths of chain to a 6 mm jump ring. Add the chain onto the jump ring in the correct order, from longest to shortest, to ensure the necklace hangs correctly.
TIP: To open and close a jump ring, grasp each side of the jump ring with chain nose pliers and twist the ring back and forth to open or close. Never pull the ring apart or this will cause distortion.
Attach the opposite ends of each strand of chain to another 6mm jump ring. Add the chain in the correct order to ensure the strands hang properly.
Add a lobster clasp to one of jump rings.
Find the center of each chain strand and carefully cut the center link on each strand with wire cutters. Set aside.
|String a skull onto an eye pin. Bend the eye pin wire to a 90° angle. Trim the wire down to ¼” in length, using wire cutters.
Create a simple wire loop by grasping the eye pin wire between the jaws of round nose pliers.
Rotate the pliers toward you until a small loop is formed.
TIP: For best visual results, make the simple loop match in size to the existing loop size on the eye pin.
Repeat previous two steps two more times for a total of three skull bead links. Set bead links aside.
| Cut a black feather down to desired size using scissors. Pull feathers off on both sides of the quill 1″ in length.
Add a line of hot glue to the underside of the quill and wrap a length of chain around the quill.
Cut an eye pin down to 1″ in length and push the eye pin down into the quill to hang. Be sure the loop of the eye pin is sitting at the top of the quill.
Glue small black Swarovski crystals onto each skull bead using Hypo Cement.
Twist open the top loop on a skull bead link using chain nose pliers and connect the skull bead link to the first (shortest) lengths of chain on the necklace. Keep in mind the chain was cut into two lengths. The skull bead link will hold the two lengths together.
|Twist open the bottom loop on the same skull bead link and connect the next set of chain.
Twist open the top loop on the second skull bead link and hook the loop onto the bottom of the first skull bead link so that the two skull bead links are connected and dangle down.
Twist open the bottom loop on the second skull bead link and connect the third set of chain.
